NCOL.NET is dedicated to providing quality high
speed Internet service to our communities. Unlike the large
corporations, NCOL.NET is community oriented and goal driven.
We live and raise our families in the same communities as our
customers. NCOL.NET also realizes the importance of bringing
high speed Internet to the rural areas of North Carolina. Our
larger competitors are headquartered in different states and
have no connection to the people in rural North Carolina, whereas
NCOL.NET has owners and employees located in a very broad 4
county area.
NCOL.NET has recently been licensed as a Competing
Local Exchange Carrier in the state of North Carolina. This
gives NCOL.NET special priveledges to attach to the existing
telephone network at interconnection points. NCOL.NET is using
these interconnection points to bring high speed Internet access
to areas with limited or no high speed Internet access.
NCOL.NET will deploy these services in areas
with a commited customer base of at least 20 new customers.
This level of customers is necessary for NCOL.NET to cost justify
the expensive proposition of installing expensive data lines
and DSL equipment at new locations.
No, when NCOL.NET brings high speed DSL Internet
service to a new rural area there are major expenses involved.
NCOL.NET bears most of the expenses as community investment.
NCOL.NET has made major investments in infrastructure
and development to be able to bring high speed DSL Internet
to rural North Carolina. NCOL.NET has major investments with
the North Carolina Public Utilities Commission to licensed
in the State of North Carolina. NCOL.NET also has major investments
in Interconnection Agreements with major Incumbent Local Exchange
Carriers.
There is a long process to bring high speed DSL
Internet to rural areas.
- Identify 25 commited customers in the project
area.
- NCOL.NET must negotiate an interconnection
with the local telephone company.
- NCOL.NET must schedule, manage and construct a telecommunications
remote terminal in the new location.
- NCOL.NET must run expensive data lines to allow Internet
communications back through NCOL.NET's core high speed ATM
network.
- After all of these steps are complete, NCOL.NET can begin
ordering new service for customers.
Each process has a length of time associated
with it:
- The interconnection negotiation usually takes appriximately
30 business days to complete.
- The construction of the new telecommunications
remote terminal will usually take approximately 3 weeks.
- The data lines will be run and hopefully in place during
the construction phase.
- After all construction is complete, customer order processing
and installation takes approximately 10 business days. After
this the customer has a fast, reliable NCOL.NET high speed
DSL Internet connection.
- Generally estimate 90 days for full service.
